When the Bride Wants Your Dress

“Where did you get that?”

It was a perfect summer evening, the air slightly sticky but not too hot. I looked around the garden admiring all of the pastel colors of the other guests against the overgrown foliage.

I knew no one other than my husband, who was catching up with old college buddies by the bar. It would have been easy to feel shy and insecure, but I was confident I would have a great night because I was in the perfect dress.

After the ceremony, I found myself alone at the bar, deciding between a beer or a glass of rose, when I heard someone ask, “Omg I love your dress, where did you get it?” I turned around to see a vision in white. I couldn’t believe that the bride was asking ME where my dress was from?! The woman who must have spent months picking out the perfect dress for the biggest day of her life, while I found mine scrolling on Instagram one afternoon.

The dress has carried me through many other occasions - work events, rehearsal dinners, graduations, nights out with friends - all met with the question, “I love that, where did you get it?”
